“Tango
and Fire” Feb. 2 at Jackson

Rosa Symphony collaborates with world-class dancers Larici and Patynin
program of chamber works by Argentine tango masters

– Santa Rosa Symphony’s 4-concert series, Latin Waves: A Festival of Rhythm, Melody and Dance
begins on Saturday, February 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Sonoma
Country Day
School ’s Jackson
Theater . The opening
concert, titled “Argentina: Tango and Fire” showcases the SRS
Chamber Players, made up of principal musicians and other players from the
Santa Rosa Symphony orchestra with the addition of special guest bandoneon and
guitar players.
The program features Argentine
chamber works by renowned tango master Astor Piazzolla (Four for Tango, the Grand Tango for Cello and Piano,
and Libertango), contemporary
composers Osvaldo Golijov (Lullaby and Doina for Flute, Clarinet and Strings)
and U.C. Davis professor Pablo Ortiz (Hipermilonga),
as well as pieces by Lisandro Adrover, Eduardo Arolas, Pedro Laurenz and
Mariano Mores
To maximize the passion
and sensuality of the music, world-class tango dancers Miriam Larici and Hugo
Patyn will perform on five of the numbers.
The
Larici-Patyn dance partnership has long held audiences spellbound. The couple debuted
their stage production Tango and Fire
in Buenos Aires in 2005, toured
Japan
with Alma de Tango and Tango Spirit III in 2004, and have performed
in such popular shows as Mambo Madness
and Forever Tango.Series Packages Still Available

for the entire Latin Waves Festival can be purchased as a package (through
